Come Fly With SHE - 6 Awesome Aviation DVDs

Posted by CCA International on

As the gloomy climes of autumn and winter begin to bear down on us, we look to the heavens, see planes, and instantly think about getting away. In decades gone by though, commercial jumbo jets would not have been all there was to see…

Concordes, fighter jets, and biplanes are but a few to have also occupied our skies. It is these types of craft that inspire romanticism around aviation. Which other of man's creations can lay claim to having drawn out such feeling of inspiration, fear, hope, and pride in the population?

Just for clarification the title of this article is a nod towards Frank Sinatra, not those two wallies David Walliams and Matt Lucas. Now, on to the matter in hand. Do you eat, sleep and breathe documentaries? We've got your life's needs covered. An aviation diehard? You've come to the right place. Simply looking for something fresh and fascinating to watch? Spread your wings and dive in.

Guy Martin's British Icons of War Box Set

A great gateway DVD into the wonderful world of aviation! Guy Martin is one of our favourite petrolhead/engineering-whiz presenters and he helps give some great insight into these three icons of war.

Interviews with some of the few remaining veterans, rare footage from the 1940s and narrated by Charles Dance. Spitfire ticks all of the boxes and is definitely one to watch.

Concorde: Bristol's Supersonic Triumph

If you want the full story of Concorde, look no further. From it's inception to it's end, this DVD leaves no stone unturned in providing you with all of the detail about this iconic supersonic aircraft. This includes interviews and commentary from pilots, engineers and designers.

100 Years of the RAF

Some of you may have been fortunate enough to have seen the RAF flyover in July which was part of their centenary celebration. Fear not if you missed out, as there is this DVD which also does the trick. Unforgettable tales, interviews and rare footage all feature.

A History of Air Travel: From Zeppelin to Concorde

If you're looking for a crash course in how travelling by plane has evolved over the last century, then maybe this is the one for you. That annoying Disneyland tune 'It's a Small World After All' was not always a truth, and this DVD highlights that journey and how we've advanced.

We are serious, and don't call us Shirley! Okay we're cheating slightly… but with Leslie Nielsen starring in possibly the funniest movie of all-time (perhaps we need a blog for that) this is a must-watch! Tears of laughter will flood the runways when you watch this timeless parody of the disaster film genre.
