Fall Of Eagles (DVD)
The stunning 1974 BBC dramatisation of the decline and fall of three historical empires: the Hapsburgs, Romanovs and Hohenzollerns.
Starring Patrick Stewart, Charles Kay and Michael Hordern as the rulers of Austria-Hungary, Germany and Russia, as the series portrays the key historical events that shaped 1848 to 1918.
In the latter half of the 19th century, three ruling houses dominated Europe: the Hapsburgs of Austria-Hungary, the Romanovs of Russia and Hohenzollerns of Germany. The three great empires would be brought to an inevitable demise due to lack of social reform and the devastating effect of WW1.
The incredible cast of this 13-part drama brings key historical figures to life. Charles Kay plays the tragic last Tsar of Russia, while Gayle Hunnicutt his wife, the tenacious Tsarina Alexandra.
Patrick Stewart is Lenin, on the road to revolution and power. Troubled rulers Kaiser Wilhelm and Emperor Franz Josef are played by Barry Foster and Laurence Naismith, respectively, with both Diane Keen and Rachel Gurney featuring as the latter's wife, the Empress Elisabeth.
Gemma Jones is Queen Victoria's eldest daughter Vicky and Denis Lill her Prussian husband, Fritz. Maurice Denham is his father Wilhelm I and Curt Jurgens, in a rare television role, is the Iron Chancellor Bismarck.
