Series 4 of BBC's successful and long-running drama series about the Hammond family and their haulage firm.

Originally broadcast in 1976, on BBC One's prime-time Sunday night spot, The Brothers quickly became one of the channel's most popular drama series of the decade. Created by Gerard Glaister (Secret Army / Colditz) and N. J. Crisp.

Tensions run high when shares in the family business are split not just between the three brothers when the family patriarch dies, but also, shockingly, with Robert's secretary Jennifer (Jennifer Wilson Z Cars). Each shareholder has a different idea on how the business should be run.

Ill health, strikes and financial problems all threaten the success of the Hammond family's business in the fourth series of the popular BBC One Sunday night drama.

When Mary (Jean Anderson) suffers a second heart attack, the family must club together in support and Chairman Edward (Patrick O'Connell) keeps quiet to his family about his encroaching marriage to his father's former mistress Jennifer (Jennifer Kingsley).

Rapid expansion leads to decisions about whether the Hammonds should go public, and Brian (Richard Easton) has money man Martin Farrell (Murray Hayne) join the board, while Edward appoints ex-foreman Bill Riley (Derek Benfield) to help with the business.

The company is floated at a time of deep turmoil, on the advice of slimy  banker Paul Merroney ( Doctor Who's Colin Baker), and Edward is left fighting for survival as company chairman. Can Edward rely on all his family to support him?
