Target For Tonight (DVD)
One of the greatest British Aviation films of the Second World War, with unparalleled footage from the Imperial War Museum archives.
Made by the Crown Film Unit for the RAF, Target for Tonight recreates an early Wellington bomber raid on Nazi Germany, concentrating on one aircraft in particular - F for Freddie.
No actors were used in the making of this film. Instead genuine Wellington pilots and crew (including the then Squadron Leader Charles Pickard) recreated the mission for the cameras.
Scripted and directed by Harry Watt, the film went on to win an honorary Academy Award in 1942 and was voted Best Documentary by the National Board of Review in 1941.
BONUS FEATURES: ON THE CHIN (1942) A Path report by Quentin Reynolds on the RAF raids on Cologne and the Ruhr and the Luftwaffe raid on Canterbury. DAY AND NIGHT (1942) A British Movietone News report of RAF bombing raids, including an attack by Bostons on St Malo Docks and a heavy bomber strike on Bremen.
