Shetland Series 4 (DVD)
This hugely popular ITV series, Shetland, based on the novels by award-winning crime writer Ann Cleeves , follows Detective Inspector Jimmy Perez (Douglas Henshall) and his team as they investigate crime within the close knit island community.
It returns for a fourth series spread across 6 intense episodes in what can be compared to as Scandinavian noir with not only fantastic performances, but its picturesque cinematography and editing.
In this isolated and sometimes inhospitable environment, the team have to rely on a uniquely resourceful style of policing. Whilst series 1 ; 2 was based on the best selling books Red Bones, Raven Black, Dead Water and Blue Lightning. The third and fourth series of Shetland are single original stories but nevertheless, just as gripping and full of suspense.
The story focuses upon a murder that happened decades ago, in 1993. Lizzie Kilmuir's body was found in a disused lime kiln on Unst and soon after Thomas Malone confessed to it and has been in prison since. But the case reopens when new advanced DNA evidence points to another assailant, leading to his release. Although most of the evidence, including the confession, reiterates Malone's guilt, Perez gets caught up on an old interview tape which has a gap in leading him to the question, what was said in the pause and why is it missing?
What the press said:
"The body count mounts in this stunningly bleak drama... It's easy to see why the BBC's hugely successful export has so many fans all over the world with its beautiful scenery and knotty plots, it's pure escapism" Guardian
