Critically acclaimed comedy drama about a family planning a wedding in India. Winner of the Golden Lion at Venice. Directed by Mira Nair.
As the wedding (and the monsoon season) approaches, five love stories are played out across the generations, cultures clash and family secrets.
Director Mira Nair's (Karma Sutra) wonderfully family saga explores all facets of modern middle-class India through one New Delhi family planning an arranged marriage for their daughter. From the servants, to the parents, to the various relatives arriving for the celebrations, family dynamics are exposed and the hierarchies in the society and respect for tradition are comically brought to life.
The parents struggle to ensure their daughter marries the partner they've chosen for her. She, in the meantime, is pining for a married man she's been having an affair with.
As the ceremony approaches, her cold feet look set to spell disaster for all concerned.
