Hotel Terminus - The Life and Times of Klaus Barbie (DVD)
Oscar-winning documentary about the life of formidable Nazi SS officer Klaus Barbie.
Winner of the Academy Award for Best Documentary in 1989, and from visionary Marcel Ophulus.
Historically known as the Butcher of Lyon, Klaus Barbie was appointed head of intelligence at the Nazi base in Lyon, where he personally tortured French prisoners using a variety of methods including electric shocks and sexual abuse.
Barbie is thought to have caused 4,000 deaths, and the deportation of 7,000 Jews from occupied France, before he inexplicably vanished.
This film charts the 40-year hunt for Barbie, initiated by the same governments that would later hide him and protect his family.
This fascinating documentary features interviews with both supporters and opponents to Barbie's trial, from his own defence lawyer, to journalists, old friends and former US Counter Intelligence agents. The film spans 70 years, three continents and over 120 hours of interview footage.
Hotel Terminus exposes a complex web of deceit, collaboration and political deviance nearly as unforgettable as the crimes themselves.
