The Oscar-winning 1945 adaptation of Betty Smiths romantic period drama novel, which was Elia Kazans directional debut.

Starring Peggy Ann Garner, Dorothy McGuire, Joan Blondell and James Dunn.

This memorable film about a young girl growing up in turn-of-the-century New York won an Oscar in 1946 for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for James Dunn, who gave an outstanding performance as the alcoholic father. Dorothy McGuire also shined as the familys strong-willed mother holding the family together.

Peggy Ann Garner won a special Oscar for her performance as their 13-year old daughter,’ Francies (Most Promising Juvenile Performer).

Joan Blondell co-stars as Francies flamboyant aunt, whose means of financial support is a never-ending source of neighbourhood gossip.
