Nothing Like a Dame (DVD)
Four women. Four icons. Four friends. Four national treasures. Dames Eileen Atkins, Judie Dench, Maggie Smith, Joan Plowright talk about their friendship and films.
British screen legends Joan Plowright, Maggie Smith, Eileen Atkins and Judi Dench are not only brilliant actresses, they're also firm friends. Director Roger Michell (Notting Hill) eavesdropped on one of their gatherings with his camera, as the women sit and chat about their careers, husbands and ageing.
Their friendship goes back more than half a century. Coming together for a weekend at the country retreat Dame Joan once shared with her husband Laurence Olivier, the ladies discuss their lives and careers, reminisce about their humble beginnings in the theatre, occasionally bicker, and reflect on love and loss.
