Spotlight on Maggie Smith

National treasure Maggie Smith is probably best known today for her scene-stealing role as the Dowager Countess in Downton Abbey, but her early career is not to be overlooked…

She blazed a trail in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. Maggie Smith won Oscar and BAFTA awards for her role as the domineering Scottish schoolteacher, who is adamant that she can mold "my girls" into the "crème de la crème." Other unforgettable films include The Lady in the Van, Gosford Park, Quartet and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.

She won her second Oscar for California Suite, and four Emmys (for My House in Umbria and Downton Abbey).
