The Avro Shackleton was a Royal Air Force British long-range maritime patrol aircraft. It was developed by Avro from the Avro Lincoln bomber with a new fuselage, and named after the famed polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton.  

Originally used mainly in anti-submarine warfare and maritime patrol aircraft roles, it was later adapted for airborne early warning, search and rescue missions and other roles from 1951 -1990.
