This multi-award winning drama tells the controversial story of prisoner's rights campaigner Lord Longford's dogged campaign for the release of one of Britain's most famous murderers.
When life-long devout Christian Frank Packenham (aka Lord Longford €“ Jim Broadbent) receives a letter from convicted child murderer Myra Hindley requesting he visit her in prison, he casually accepts her invitation, despite his wife being extremely unhappy with the decision (Lindsay Duncan). He forms an unexpected friendship with Hindley, due to their mutual Catholic upbringing, and begins a decade-long fight to attempt to release her.
However, what Longford thinks he knows about Hindley is challenged during a subsequent visit to her manacle partner-in-crime Ian Brady (Andy Serkis). His convictions are further tested as public outcry against his actions increases due to his involvement with the hated couple.
The campaign threatens to leave his reputation destroyed, and Longford's actions spark furious public debate across the country.
Featuring a compelling musical score from Emmy-nominee Rob Lane (Merlin) and cinematography from Danny Cohen (The King's Speech).
