Riding the Wentloog Intermodal - Cab Ride Daventry to Wentloog (DVD)
Daventry to Wentlook via Nuneaton, Gloucester and Newport.
This is a cab ride on 66433, filmed on a fine sunny day in September 2013, featuring the entire 141 mile journey. With 1100 tonnes and 29 of the ‘Less CO2’ and ‘StobartRail’ branded curtain-side containers in tow, the journey starts at the Daventry International Railfreight terminal near to Rugby and runs to the Wentloog container facility, situated between Newport and Cardiff in South Wales.
Upon departure from Daventry we join the West Coast Main Line, running to Rugby and then Nuneaton where we head west towards Birmingham, passing Water Orton and Washwood Heath. Taking a few freight-only curves and branches, the train avoids the centre of Birmingham, heading for Kings Norton and on to Bromsgrove. Running down the Lickey incline we continue on to Cheltenham, then Gloucester, along the banks of the River Severn to Severn Tunnel Junction, into Wales and then Newport and finally into Wentloog.
As well as the cab ride itself, we pass a staggering number and variety of passenger and freight trains as well as many major junctions and well-known locations, particularly in the Midlands. There is a thrash camera located in the rear cab, recording the 66 hard at work. Includes maps, part narration and on-screen captions.
