Spotlight on Vanessa Redgrave
One of the great actresses of her generation, Vanessa Redgrave was born into an acting dynasty.
She gave some dazzling displays in star film roles most notably as sexually willing Mrs Codrington in The Charge of the Light Brigade, a glowing Guenevere in Camelot, celebrity agent Peggy Ramsay in Prick Up Your Ears and the gentle, doomed Mrs Wilcox in James Ivory’s Howards End.
She won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, for her mesmerising performance in Fred Zinnemann’s Julia, starring alongside Jane Fonda.
