Philadelphia Gordon (Sigrid Thornton), shipwrecked in 1890s Australia, is taken in by her Uncle Charles and Aunt Hester. Stopping off in the port of Echuca, Philadelphia meets the charismatic Brenton Edwards (John Waters), who acquaints her with the pleasures of boating along the Murray River.
