Jake Auerbachs art documentary Men and Woman looks at the work of British artist Allen Jones was has produced some of the most startling and dynamic images of the past five decades.
His is a world of beautiful and iconic women, immaculately seductive, a world in which glamour is a given, where roles switch to the beat and passions flower in searing colour.
His work various across mediums from painting, sculpture or print played a large role in the British Pop Art movement of the late 1950s. His art challenged the likes Warhol and Lichtenstein on their home turf in New York, and been the target of feminist anger in the 1970s, before developing into the mature style that today delights collectors and art enthusiasts globally.
However, the man is known to be reclusive and his methods remain a mystery. This film explores the artist and his work with the help of his only sitter, prima ballerina Darcy Bussell, his wife Deirdre Morrow, artist Gary Hume, and of course Allen Jones himself.
