In a grand canyon, a magnificent and potentially very valuable wild black stallion is roaming free. A group of cowboys, including rancher Del Rockwell (Joel McCrea), wish to capture and tame the beast to put him out to stud. 

But a group of rival cowboys have the same idea, and will also stop at nothing to capture him.
