BBC Radio 4 presenter Martha Kearney follows the footsteps of 19th century artist and geologist Georges Victor Du Noyer
Martha Kearney travels to her ancestral home of Ireland to follow in the footsteps of George Victor Du Noyer, visiting the places he travelled to and captured magnificently in his sketches and paintings.
Du Noyer spent 35 years tracing Irelands people and buildings, and its gorgeous, rugged landscape. Martha Kearney finds out what Irelands landscapes once looked like, and how they have changed, showing an intricate relationship between the people and the land.
Episode One
Kearney introduces us to Du Noyers work, and travels to the Bog of Allen, which sits between the Liffey and Shannon, and the Old Head of Kinsale in Co Cork.
Episode Two
Kearney journeys to Northern Ireland, focusing on the beauty of the region, from the rugged Giant’s Causeway in Antrim, to Mussenden Temple in Londonderry.
Episode Three
Kearney drops in on the sumptuously splendid Castletown House in Co Kildare and gazes at the glorious Rock of Cashel.
Episode Four
Kearney explores the Blasket Islands off the coast of Co Kerry, then on to the Dingle Peninsula, finally heading north to the islands of the Fermanagh Lakelands.
