Jossy's Giants: Complete Series 1 and 2 (DVD)
188922
The classic BBC series fondly remembered by a generation of football mad kids that grew up in the '80s
"We're called Jossy's Giants. Football's just a branch of science."
Directed by Edward Pugh (Grange Hill / Byker Grove) and written by much-loved TV personality and darts commentator Sid Waddell. Jossy's Giants follows the ups-and-downs of a youth football club, the Glipton Grasshoppers, a struggling team of young misfits who are yet to win a match.
Jim Barclay stars as Jossy Blair, a former professional footballer for Newcastle United, whose career was cut tragically short after he injured himself in his first match.
He is convinced by the boys of the Glipton Grasshoppers to manage their team instead, who are in desperate need of his expert help. But with some organisation, a change of attitude, and a lot of humour along the way, he transforms them into a respectable team, the Glipton Giants.
Featuring guest appearances from some of the biggest names in football at the time, including Bobby Charlton and then-England captain Bryan Robson.
"It is remarkable how many of the 40-something generation still remember the programme. I also think it will be a popular show with the football-mad section of the younger generation. We all go through a stage of being utterly enthralled by all things to do with football. It needs to be on DVD.“ Jim Barclay

"The chemistry of footy, telly and dreams remains as potent a mix as ever - proving that football really is a branch of science" - David Lewis, We Are Cult
"The finest children's football drama ever made." - Cultbox
"The sheer fizz of Sid Waddell's scripts, the number of good one-liners and the interplay between the cast....Jossy's giants is a comic delight" - Archive TV Musings
