Italian funnyman Roberto Benigni directs himself to Oscar-winning effect as an Italian Jew who tries to shield his son from the horrors of a concentration camp. Making light of the Holocaust is a tricky proposition, but Benigni deftly treads the line between tragedy and comedy.

An eccentric Italian Jew and his son are sent to a concentration camp during WWII, while his wife is held prisoner in another area.
