Sounds of the 70s
We can thank the glorious musical decade that was the Seventies for David Bowie, Marc Bolan, Status Quo and so many more. Read on…
If the 60’s was the decade that gave birth to modern pop music then it was the 70’s that built on it and made music what it is today – from bubblegum to disco to hard rock.
When else could you see Donny Osmond, Marc Bolan, David Bowie and Thin Lizzy all on the same edition of Top of the Pops?
This ear-popping collection has gone into the archive to dig out glam rock classics from T Rex and Roxy Music, great rock performances from the likes of Rory Gallagher, Status Quo and Tom Petty and the emerging new wave and punk sounds of The Damned, The Jam, Siouxsie and the Banshees and Dr Feelgood.
It was an era when the singles charts stopped being quite so important and vinyl albums began to dominate. Along came bands like Supertramp, and Lynyrd Skynyrd with their classic Freebird
The decade ended with the departure of the old rock dinosaurs and the arrival of a new wave of Blondie, Talking Heads, The Stranglers, the New York Dolls and even The Knack.
Every programme includes newsreel from the time, together with facts and information about the artists and the songs!
