Rex Harrison and Vivien Leigh star in this fun comedy drama from 1937 directed by Ian Dalrymple and Victor Saville

The life of Englishman Frank Burdon (Rex Harrison) is changed forever when he travels to Scotland to become a newspaper reporter and has a chance meeting with Victoria (Vivian Leigh), the daughter of Provost Willie Gow (Cecil Parker).

Frank discovers a peasant woman (Sara Allgood) who confides in him that she cannot pay a fine she has been given for not having a licence for her dog, so Victoria's tyrannical father has ordered the animal to be put down.

Shocked by this decision, Frank decides to try and change Gow's mind by getting the public on their side. Victoria sides with Frank over her father, and news of a scandal travels across Scotland causing Gow to sue Frank for slander.
